A Plant-Based Friendsgiving Gathering: Celebrating Togetherness and Delicious Cuisine

As the leaves turn golden and the crisp autumn air sets in, it's time to gather with loved ones and celebrate the season of gratitude. Friendsgiving, a cherished tradition for many, brings friends together to share a meal and express gratitude for each other. This year, why not elevate the celebration with a plant-based Friendsgiving gathering? Embracing plant-based cuisine is not only a healthy and sustainable choice but also an opportunity to explore a world of delectable flavors and creative dishes. Here's how to host a memorable and delicious plant-based Friendsgiving.

Planning the Menu

The heart of any Friendsgiving is, of course, the feast. When planning a plant-based menu, consider a variety of dishes that showcase the bounty of the season. Start with a rich and velvety Creole Butternut Squash Soup, garnished with toasted pumpkin seeds and a drizzle of chili oil. For the main course, a savory Lentil Loaf or a Hearty Vegetable Pot Pie makes a satisfying centerpiece. Accompany these with a selection of vibrant side dishes such as roasted brussels sprouts with a pomegranate balsamic glaze, maple-glazed carrots, and Creamy mashed Potatoes made with plant-based milk and butter.

To add a touch of elegance, serve a refreshing autumn salad with mixed greens, candied Georgia pecans, dried cranberries, and a tangy Tahini Maple Mustard Salad Dressing. Don't forget the bread! Freshly baked sourdough or herb-infused rolls will complement the meal perfectly. For dessert, indulge in a classic Sweet Potato pie with a coconut whipped cream topping or a decadent German Chocolate Cake.

Decor and Ambiance

Creating a warm and inviting atmosphere is key to a successful Friendsgiving. Embrace the cozy vibes of fall with rustic decor. Set the table with earthy-toned linens, wooden serving platters, and seasonal centerpieces featuring pumpkins, gourds, and autumn leaves. Scatter fairy lights and candles around the room to add a soft, ambient glow.

To make the gathering even more special, consider incorporating personal touches such as place cards with handwritten notes expressing gratitude for each guest. A communal gratitude board where everyone can jot down what they're thankful for adds a meaningful element to the celebration.

Beverages and Mocktails

No Friendsgiving is complete without a selection of beverages to complement the meal. Offer a variety of options to cater to different tastes. A spiced apple cider, served warm or chilled, is a festive choice. For those who enjoy a mocktail, a cranberry rosemary spritzer or a pear and ginger sangria will add a touch of sophistication to the evening. Have the option to add a shot of alcohol for those who want to indulge. Maybe pack the shot in a cute to go bag for them to have once they get back home.

Activities and Entertainment

While the food takes center stage, engaging activities can enhance the Friendsgiving experience. Set up a cozy corner with blankets and pillows for guests to relax and chat. Organize a friendly trivia game or a DIY craft station where guests can create their own seasonal decorations. If the weather permits, an outdoor firepit with marshmallow roasting and storytelling can create lasting memories.

Embracing Plant-Based Cuisine

Hosting a plant-based Friendsgiving is not just about the food; it's a celebration of health, sustainability, and compassion. By choosing plant-based dishes, you're contributing to a more sustainable future and showing care for the environment and animal welfare. It's also an opportunity to introduce friends to the delicious possibilities of plant-based cooking and inspire them to incorporate more plant-based meals into their own lives.

A plant-based Friendsgiving gathering is a wonderful way to celebrate togetherness, gratitude, and the joys of plant-based cuisine. With thoughtful planning, a diverse and delicious menu, and a cozy, inviting atmosphere, you'll create an unforgettable experience for your friends. So, gather your loved ones, savor the flavors of the season, and enjoy a heartwarming Friendsgiving filled with love and laughter.

Happy Friendsgiving!

Here are two of our recipes to get you started:

Creole Roasted Butternut Squash Soup

Tahini Maple Mustard Salad Dressing

1/4 cup salad oil

1/4 cup tahini

2 Tbsp. lemon juice

3 tsp Creole mustard

3 tsp maple syrup

1 tsp creole seasoning

2-3 Tbsp. ice-cold water

Tahini Maple Mustard Dressing

1. Combine all ingredients except the ice water and blend well.

2. Add the ice water to make the dressing creamier.

3. Adjust seasoning see note below.

Note:

Ice water helps the ingredients naturally bind better.  Use more ice water for a thinner salad dressing.  Depending on your brand of tahini it may be more bitter.  Adjust the sugar, lemon, and salt depending on the bitterness.
